National center for Kvens language and culture
Kainun institutti – Kvensk Institute is located in Børselv in Porsanger and is Norway's national center for Kvens language and culture, established in 2005. The Institute works to develop, document and disseminate knowledge about Kvens language and culture and to promote the use of Kvens in society. The Kvens are a national minority with roots in Finnish immigration to Northern Norway, and Porsanger is one of the core communities for Kvens culture. A visit provides insight into a lesser-known but important part of Northern Norway's multicultural history. Check opening hours on the institute's website.
