The Sámi national theatre in the new Čoarvemátta building
Beaivváš Sámi National Theatre is the national theatre for the Sámi people and performs productions in North Sámi, often with subtitles. The theatre tours throughout Sápmi, but has its base in Guovdageaidnu. Since 2024, Beaivváš is located in Čoarvemátta, a distinctive building designed by Snøhetta in collaboration with 70°N architecture and artist Joar Nango. The form is inspired by the innermost segment of a reindeer horn and by the lavvu. The building also houses the Sámi Upper Secondary School and reindeer herding school/Sámi allaskuvla, and has become a cultural landmark where duodji traditions are passed on to new generations.
